Infiniti has unveiled JX Crossover, new concept aimed squarely at families at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The seven-passenger, three-row crossover model is for now technically a concept, but this is pretty much what you’ll see in production form at November’s L.A. auto show.
Infiniti describes the model’s new shape as that of a greenhouse, promising class-leading roominess and an innovative access method to the rear row. They confirmed that the model will be offered with a V6 engine powering an all-wheel or front-wheel drive, but details on the engine weren’t provided. The Infiniti JX will also be the first Infiniti to utilize a sport-tuned, but fuel-efficient continuously variable transmission. The CVT will mimic a step transmission when the Sport mode of the Infiniti drive selector is engaged.
With the JX, you will even be able to leave a child seat latched to the second row while getting in or out of the third row, says Ben Poore, chief of the Infiniti division in the U.S. The third row isn’t the typical penalty box either, with adult-size room for all occupants and 5.5 inches of second-row forward-back adjustability.
The JX’s styling is also a step forward for Infiniti, which says the large crossover advances the design language started with the Essence concept, including some of those cues in the front grille and headlight design, the crescent-cut D-pillar, and the overall shape of the roof and cabin. Other focus areas for the Infiniti JX include flexibility in use of interior space and safety.
