Microsoft could be developing two next-gen Xbox 720 consoles

Microsoft could be preparing two gaming consoles to replace the current-generation Xbox 360, according to industry sources. It is believed that the new consoles could arrive sometime in 2013 which would give Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) ample time to test and refine their 28nm manufacturing process.

Redmond is said to be developing an entry-level system as well as a true next-generation hardcore gaming console. Multiple consoles aren't a new idea as Microsoft sells the 360 at multiple price ranges but the differences typically are minimal: various capacity hard drives, limited edition offerings and game and accessory bundles.
The lower-end model will come at a very low price point and positioned much like a set-top box. The report says this unit will target streaming media services like Netflix and cater to more casual gamers, described as a Kinect-themed portal.
XBOX 720 Concepts
The mainstream Xbox would be a true upgrade in every sense for hardcore gamers, featuring an optical drive, hard drive storage and backwards-compatibility with existing 360 games. Such a system would carry a premium over the entry-level model, with price and graphics performance reflective of it.

It is also believed that Kinect will receive a substantial upgrade, perhaps in line with what Microsoft is planning to do with the Windows version sometime next year.
Rumors suggest the 720 could contain a six-core CPU, AMD graphics and 2GB of DDR3 memory.

PlayStation Vita to Arrive February 2012

The Wi-Fi only Vita will hold a price tag of $250 while the 3G(AT&T)/Wi-Fi model will run $300
At the E3 Expo in June of this year, Sony announced its newest upcoming portable, PlayStation Vita. For those of you who have been waiting to get your hands on one, Vita will be available to purchase in February 2012.
PS Vita offers social networking apps called "Party" and "Near," which allow users organize friend lists, discuss what you're doing online, and reveal where you are (much like Facebook's "Check-in").
A total of 26 games will be available on launch day, and another 100 are currently in production. A few games that Sony announced at E3 were "LittleBigPlanet," "Uncharted: Golden Abyss," and "Street Fighter X Tekken."
In addition, a new feature on Vita allows gamers to save their game on the portable system using "cloud saving," which can then be resumed on the PS3.
The Wi-Fi only Vita will hold a price tag of $250 while the 3G(AT&T)/Wi-Fi model will run $300. It will hit stores in Japan on December 17, 2011, and arrive in North America on February 22, 2012.
Many are wondering how well the Vita will be received, considering the Nintendo 3DS, which offers 3D features, was initially introduced with a $249.99 price tag and didn't sell so well. Nintendo decided to slash the 3DS' price to $169.99 only four months after its release.

New Xbox Coming to launch in 2013

Gadgets don’t have long lifespans, they will always be upgraded to the brightest and newest version of their former glory. Gaming consoles are no exception, so the shelf life that Xbox 360 has been able to maintain these past fews years is pretty impressive. All that’s about to change, according to the new report that says Microsoft is planning a next-gen console launch in 2013.
According to GameSpot, some Microsoft employees have even updated their LinkedIn accounts to say that they are working on hardware, with Jeff Faulker listed as creative director for the “Xbox Next Gen.”  In the same report, Lionhead is working on “Fable Next” for the new console, EA and Crytek are rumored to be in development stages as well.

Sony PSP Go/Review

Price: $249.99
Official Site: US.Playstation.com
Specs: 16GB; Wi-Fi & Bluetooth; Game format: digital download; Colors: piano black & pearl white; M2 memory stick: 2-4GB
Company: Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.

Despite various media outlet leaks over the past few weeks, the next iteration of the Sony PSP, known as the PSP go was officially announced Tuesday during the company’s keynote address at E3. Borrowing much of its figurative blueprint from the uber-succesful iPod touch, the smaller and lighter PSP go ditches the shackles of a UMD disc drive for a totally digital download accessibility. The PSP Go lets you load full games, movies, music, and other pieces of multimedia directly onto the integrated hard drive. The Sony PSP go is slated for an October 1st release, and will retail for a typical high-end Sony-style $249.99.
From a physical standpoint, the Sony PSP go is a slide-style portable console that, when closed, is about the size of your average smartphone. Compared to the PSP-1000, the PSP go is nearly 50% smaller and 40% lighter, but this also means you are faced with a slightly reduced screen size and no dual analog controls.
The first major bullet-point feature on the PSP go is its forward-thinking digital software format. Giving you true portability, you can now buy and purchase full titles like Gran Turismo PSP (a same-day launch title) on demand without the need for a UMD disc. The subtraction of a spinning disc drive should only help to improve the once-suspect battery life of the Sony console. In order to store an extensive downloaded media library, the go will have a 16GB hard drive, which can be further expanded through an add-on M2 slot.
With the exception of being able to digitally download on-demand retail titles, there are not that many original or revolutionary gaming features on the PSP go. For Sony PlayStation 3 gamers who have become accustomed to fluid- and natural-feeling dual analog stick control, it will be teeth-grinding to go back and play a title like God of War: Chains of Olympus with a traditional D-pad controller. There are enough major titles from top developers already slated for the PSP go to keep interest perked despite the lack of any envelope-pushing game technology. What Sony has brought to the PSP go is a wonderful complement of multimedia features. The portable unit has built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and a totally revamped music player that can build playlists based on your personal taste and song choice. With the early October launch date fast approaching, details are sure to flood in about this enticing new portable console, and after a bit of a false start, the PSP go is heading in the right direction.

SPECIAL GADGETS/Razer Blade – The World’s First True Gaming Laptop

Gamers will get to make up their own minds at Penny Arcade Expo this weekend, where PC gaming manufacturer Razer is showing off its first gaming laptop. The Razer Blade is a high-powered, portable Windows 7-based laptop priced at $2,800 and targeted for the market later this year.
Borrowing a page from Apple’s minimalistic MacBook Pro laptops, Razer’s managed to make an all matte 17.3-inch laptop with a 1080p resolution that combines gorgeous design, portability and uber power in a chassis less than one inch thick and weighs under seven pounds. Based on an Intel Core i7-2640M CPUs (clocked at 2.8 GHz), the notebook measures 17.3 inches and has an LCD with a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD). 8 GB of RAM are present, as is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M discrete graphics card, whose own dedicated memory is 2 GB. It also sports a 320-gigabyte hard drive, wireless connectivity and built-in webcam. The sleek computer’s top is emblazoned with the company’s snake logo.
And then there’s the rest of the Razer Blade’s unique design, like its Switchblade User Interface. According to Razer, it’s composed of 10 dynamic adaptive tactile keys for easier access of in-game commands, and an LCD capable of two modes: one mode that displays in-game information when a mouse is in use; and another mode that functions as an ultra-sensitive, multi-touch panel designed for gaming on the go. But it can also be used to display whatever else you’d like. Want to watch a hint video on YouTube while you’re still playing the game? Chat with friends on Twitter? You can do it on the small screen, without having to multitask on the monitor.
We designed a product for ourselves — for gamers, by gamers. Compared with current gaming laptops, the Razer Blade is thinner and lighter: The key for us was to have something that was so portable, that you could pull it out of your bag with a single hand and be something you could bring along with you. And not only is this thinner than the Alienware (laptops), but by the time we were done (designing) it, it is thinner than a MacBook Pro and more powerful. It’s the most powerful and thinnest 17-inch laptop today, said Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan at a preview event.
In short, the Razer Blade is a powerful, lightweight, portable gaming machine with a unique keyboard and layout. Is it enough to shake up the PC gaming landscape?
